About

First and foremost, you deserve an explanation of the name of my little corner of the web. “Which We Call A Rose” harkens back to my beloved William Shakespeare’s line, “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” Rose happens to be a family name for me as well, and I gladly carry it as my middle name: Janelle Rose. Hence, I found the title rather apropos.

Now for a wee bit about me: I like raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, brown copper kettles, and warm woolen mittens… Oops, sorry, it appears that The Sound of Music has infiltrated my mind. You’ll have to forgive me. Austrian blood runs in my veins. I created this site to document my travels and life experiences as I dwell in London, England. I am American and grew up in California, but I fell in love with a Brit (my husband, Will) and moved to England.

I am a lifelong bibliophile, neophyte photographer, and travel aficionado. London is my fourth home (the others being Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and Buenos Aires… you could say I have an ongoing affair with metropolitania) and I look forward to sharing its idiosyncrasies with you. One caveat: if you’re looking for clubs, concerts, and crazies, you’re not apt to find that here. But if you fancy reflections on culture, rants about decorum, and rumination on life, welcome. Join me for a cup of tea.

~Janelle
